The summer has flown by and there is one week until we enter autumn. This summer has been many days of staying indoors when possible to avoid COVID! Now in my area, we are besieged with horrible forest fires. The smokey air has been hard on my breathing and the smell upon awakening in the morning is horrible. We have been advised to stay indoors whenever possible which is fine with me. It has been going on for days and now our foothill communities are threatened and facing possible evacuation. So what is a person to do in these dire times? Well, I have been trying to write and at best researching for my historical novel. My critique group keeps pushing to get my 10 pages done every two weeks which is a good thing. It is a sequel to my woman’s fiction and is titled I’ll Be Seeing You. This one has a bit of mystery to it and introduces a new character that has four legs and irresistible charm. Lily has moved in with Maggie to protect her – all of her 15 pounds. She does bark a lot though which is to discourage any potential threat to Maggie. Stay tuned for further details on this new pairing. I have also been reading. My reading started off slow in the first six weeks of summer then took off! I have read four books and I would recommend all of them. The Pearl of Panang and Prisoner of Panang written by Claire Flynn were wonderful. Daughter of the Reich was slow getting started but then took off. Louise Fein has penned a great read. Finally, Red Sky Over Hawaii by Sara Ackermann presents a different perspective of WWII. This time the story takes place on the big island of Hawaii. Ackermann has a gift for placing the reader right there. She has a talent for vividly describing the scene. I will be starting a new book but not sure which one. I have a huge TBR pile so it shouldn’t be hard. Until next time. Aloha
